According to the Maryland Land Title Association, a TIPIC (Title Insurance Producer Independent Contractor) is an independent contractor-which can include an attorney-who provides escrow, closing, or settlement services on behalf of a TIP (Title Insurance Producer) that may result in a title insurance contract. To act as a TIPIC, an individual must be a commissioned notary who is also licensed by the Maryland Insurance Commissioner to conduct this type of business in the state.
